From the Mason City Athletic Department:

logo-MohawksMason City High School is proud to announce that 5’10” sophomore Makenzie Meyer has verbally agreed to attend the University of Iowa on a women’s basketball scholarship beginning with the 2016-17 season! Makenzie is the daughter of Mark and Ann Meyer of Mason City, and has an older brother Matt, and two younger sisters, Megan and Macy.

Makenzie was a starter last year as a freshman for the Mohawks who lost in the state semifinals to West Des Moines Dowling and finished with a 21-4 record. She averaged 9.8 pts/game while shooting 49.7% from the field, 41.8% from 3’s, and 73.3% from the free throw line. Makenzie was named to the all CIML northern division 1st team and academic all conference after the season and was named to the Globe Gazette all area team. Her top game from the year was at Marshalltown with a career high 29 points along with 6 steals.

Makenzie and her family are lifelong Hawkeye fans. She is excited for the opportunity to be a Hawkeye and is equally excited to help continue the proud tradition of Mason City Girls Basketball in the next 3 years!
