Wellmark offers “stability of benefits and rates” through 2014

DES MOINES – Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield made two major announcements to benefit its members on Tuesday.

First, Wellmark is offering its current non-grandfathered individual under-65 members and small business groups (plans with 2-50 employees) the option to extend their current health insurance coverage through Dec. 30, 2014 (in the individual market) and through Nov. 30, 2014 (in the small group market). Second, each one of Wellmark’s grandfathered and non-grandfathered individual under-65 members and small business groups (approximately 330,000 members) will not receive a base premium increase relative to medical trend or administrative costs for 2014. The only base premium increase they will receive is to accommodate the impact of the new Affordable Care Act (ACA) fees and taxes required by all carriers – estimated to be less than a six percent increase.

“We are rewarding our valued members with today’s announcements,” said Wellmark Chairman and CEO John Forsyth. “As a mutual company, Wellmark is owned by its policyholders and these decisions are designed to provide them with maximum flexibility and choice while minimizing their increase in cost. The extension provides additional time to become more informed about what the changes in the market mean without losing the current coverage they know and trust. This is a decision that impacts one of their most precious assets – the overall well-being of themselves, their families and their businesses.”

I happen to think a lot of Dr. Peterson. She is a very upbeat person who has found a severe problem wrong with with me that many other doctors, including Mayo, missed for over 10 years. You may not like Mercy or the mayor, but don’t bash Dr. Peterson!

She’d have to be to live with him.. Up beat that is!!!!

@Katie-I too know Dr. Peterson and have no problem with her. You hear a lot of people tearing down Mercy but when you ask if they have ever been there they say no. I am sure that with as many procedures Mercy does in a day they are going to make a mistake once in awhile but overall, my experience with them has been positive. I have heard horror stories about Mayo as well.

Your drug cost have gone up about 20% too. Thanks to the tax put on by Obamacare. If you don’t think that is a lot just wait until you hit the donut hole 2 months sooner.

I hope you all read the 6 percent increase for health care forced on you by the White House!!! Ahhhhhh thank god we live in blue zone territory!!!! Ooooooooooo I forgot the mayors wife works at Mercy. It’s called Mercy for a reason. Mercy mercy mercy!!!

Lets see 11 percent increase a few months back, 6 percent for Uncle Sam next year, equal 8 percent a year. God their going broke!!! O he’ll if yer poor don’t matter…
