High school coach charged with sexual contact, transmitting HIV

CAHOKIA, Ill., May 14 (UPI) — A Cahokia, Ill., assistant teacher and coach was charged with sexual contact with a student and transmission of HIV, court records said.

Mario Hunt, 35, an assistant track coach who also worked with football and basketball teams at Cahokia High School, was charged with criminal sexual assault and transmission of HIV Monday, in alleged offenses against a 17-year-old male student in the first six months of 2011, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Tuesday.

Cahokia School District Superintendent Art Ryan said a parent complained to the school several weeks ago that Hunt, a school district employee for six years, was inappropriately communicating with her son through social media, and the school district was investigating the claim when police asked to interview Hunt.

Ryan added he did not know if the charges involved the student in the parent’s complaint.
