MASON CITY – Authorities are searching for an alleged domestic abuser at this time who may be in possession of a firearm, police said Monday afternoon.

Sunday afternoon at about 1:11 PM, Mason City police officers responded to a a report of a domestic assault in the 200 block of 9th Street SE.

According to a police report, the subject, Marcos Antonio Martinez, 30 who resided at the residence, could not be located and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Later Sunday evening, NIT received multiple reports that police had returned to the area of the original call at the 200 block of 9th Street SE.

Upon arrival at the scene, several Mason City police cruisers were nearby, some of which had blocked off the area from 8th Street SE and South Georgia west to South Jersey Avenue.  A police report indicated that up to fourteen officers had responded.  Iowa State Patrol officers and Cerro Gordo County sheriffs then arrived to the area as a Mason City ambulance was parked about a block away.

The police report indicates an arrest warrant is issued at this time for Martinez who remains at large and may have a firearm.  Monday afternoon, Mason city police said Martinez is wanted for false imprisonment and aggravated domestic assault.

Martinez is no stranger to Iowa law enforcement.

Martinez was found guilty of operating while intoxicated in 2003 and again in 2009.  Martinez was charged in 2002 with driving under the influence of a narcotic but the case was thrown out because, according to records, his brother was the one pulled over but told the Iowa State Patrol officer that he was Marcos Antonio Martinez (false identity.)

Martinez was also found guilty of 5th degree criminal mischief in 2001 and found guilty of 5th degree theft in 2000.

In all fairness… please change the title of this article to “Authorities search for alleged domestic abuser Sunday night on the SOUTHEND”. You know, NIT would single out which end of town this occurred on if it was on the other side of town! Dang Southend, we should get some more police coverage down there!

Damn South End

Lol. We should doze it!

BTW, it’s a little dark for 1:11 PM…don’t you think?

Nope-it’s always dark in the South End

No Foolin! It’s because we live in the shadow of the shameful legacy of this city….the crime ridden Damn North End.
