“Stop the King of Cruelty” rally held Saturday in Mason City

Protesters against Steve King’s alleged cruelty

by Jody Spear and Kelly Meyer –

MASON CITY – Matt Dominguez, a volunteer and spokesperson from Maryland was in Mason City Saturday hosting a rally called “Stop the King of Cruelty.”

Dominguez took time off his regular job to come to Iowa. He says, “In all of Congress, Steve King has the worst record on animal cruelty. Dog fighting is cruel, vicious, and something our children should never be exposed to. But Steve King is the only Iowa member of Congress who opposed a ban on taking children to dogfights, exposing them to violence and criminal activity.”

“These are not Iowa values,” said Dominguez. “These are not your values or my values. Steve King is too Extreme!”

During his five terms in office, he has: 1. Voted against the Pets Evacuation and Transportation Standards (PETS) Act, a bill to include pets and service animals in disaster planning. 2. Voted against the Animal Fighting Enforcement Prohibition Act, a bill to make it a federal felony to transport animals or cockfighting weapons across state lines for the purpose of animal fighting. 3. Voted to allow the trade in monkeys, chimpanzees, and other primates across state lines, so they can be acquired as exotic pets. Since 1990, more than 200 people-including dozens of children-have been injured by captive primates. Primates pose disease risks, including transmission of tuberculosis and herpes-B virus, but King put the safety of our communities at risk.

A quote from Representative Steve King on “Stop the King of Cruelty” brochure, dated July 26, 2012, “When the legislation that passed in the Farm Bill that says that it’s a federal crime to watch animals fight or to induce someone else to watch an animal fight…there’s something wrong with the priorities of people that think like that.”

Dominguez got in touch with Sybil Sukup, Executive Director of the Humane Society of North Iowa. She helped organize the rally and said, “After this rally in the park, we are all going knocking on doors to talk to people. King is wrong for Iowa families. People need to vote against him, now!”

Yeah this dip approves dogfighting & also voted AGAINST making pets part of disaster plans. Steve King can’t work for people if he hates animals. Every one should be very leery of anyone who dislikes animals, they have no soul. Wish I would have known about this rally in advance. Steve King is a POS, no matter what way you look at it.

The problem is that PETA and the HSUS inject themselves into these types of issues. Notice it doesn’t say for whom Matt Dominguez is a spokesman. I’ll bet it was one of those organizations. Vilsack supposedly took money from them for her campaign. They are nasty radical animal rights organizations that want to outlaw all domestic animal ownership. They show sad pictures of homeless animals, but the HSUS supports ONE shelter financially in the US. The rest of their money goes to lobbyists and passing laws restricting animal ownership and requiring ridiculous animal welfare laws. Steve King painted a target on himself and the State of Iowa by not supporting those laws. PETA will soon be here harassing farmers who don’t have memory foam beds for their cows and pigs. 😉

The people who have dog fights don’t advertise them.

This is the only fight Vilsack has taken against King with all the issues available. Dog fights? King does not support dog fights and anyone with a brain knows that.

By the way, can any of you in Iowa let me know where I can get a ticket to one of these dog fights?

I didn’t think so. Case closed, non issue.

A 501(c)(3) organization is absolutely forbidden to directly or indirectly participate in any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office. Violation of this prohibition could lead the IRS to completely revoke your organization’s tax-exempt status or impose excise taxes on your organization.

These people need to get a life. I am also a dog lover but recognise B.S. when I see it. We do NOT need anymore Federal Laws. That is why we have a state government. There are important issues to take care of and we do not need to waste time with this.

Yeah, to hell with the federal deficit and job creation, please focus your valuable time as a congressman on stuff like this.

King is right the last thing we need is more federal laws when every state has a law against dog fighting. Getting so every group wants a federal law against something. The last thing we need is more federal laws. Everything they want comes under the states authority and jurisdiction. We have enough laws.

so do we need a federal law so kids don’t work in meth labs? How much do you people want the Feds in your day to day life?
