JDRF Gala to be held at Surf

MASON CITY — “Hollywood Nights – Steppin’ out for a Cure!” is this year’s theme for the annual JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) Gala on Saturday, Aug. 25 at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake.

Highlights will include screenings of several short “movies” filmed for the event. Those attending will be able to vote in categories including best picture, best actor, best actress and best supporting roles. There will also be a live auction and a silent auction with more than 100 items donated by North Iowa businesses and individuals.

JDRF of North Iowa 2012 Youth Ambassador Kendra Camper of Mason City will be the guest of honor.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and entertainment by Sorta Jazz Quintet will begin at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., including Chinese and Italian food.

Tickets for the gala cost $35 per person, $15 for those 12 and under. Tables for 10 are available for $325. Tickets are available at Hy-Vee stores in Mason City, Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, First Citizens National Bank, Lake Auto Parts in Clear Lake and Edgar Financial Group.

Proceeds will go to JDRF, an international organization that raises funds for research for a cure for juvenile diabetes, also known as Type 1 diabetes.
