DELHI – A Dubuque man was injured Friday after shooting himself in the leg while deer hunting in Delaware County.
Kenneth Leslein, 53, was hunting deer in a wooded area near the Maquoketa River west of Delhi when he slipped and the pistol he was using discharged into his lower leg shortly before 8:20 a.m.
Leslein was taken to Regional Medical Center in Manchester then transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals where he was being treated for what are believed to be a non-life threatening injury.
Hunter Injured Wednesday While Hunting Deer in Jones County
An Olin man received a gunshot wound to his leg while preparing to deer hunt with his father Wednesday afternoon east of Olin.
Larry McCormick, 72, also of Olin, was in the process of loading his .44 caliber black powder pistol when the gun discharged hitting his son, Rodney McCormick, 47, in the leg below the knee as he was exiting the vehicle. The incident occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Rodney McCormick was air lifted to St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids where he was being treated for what was believed to be a non-life threatening injury.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources was assisted at the scene by the Jones County Sheriff’s Department.
