MASON CITY ñ Make plans now to attend the fifth annual Valenwine wine- and beer-tasting party from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18 at Music Man Square in Mason City.

The event is a major fundraiser for the downtown organization, which works to promote, enhance and preserve the downtown area.

Several wineries and breweries will be offering samples of their products. There will also be hors d’oeuvres, music, dancing, and live and silent auctions.

“It’s an awesome, elegant event. There’s something for everybody,” said Sharon Lindgren, a member of the Main Street Mason City board of directors.

Tickets are $15 per person and are available at Coffee Cat, Community National Bank and North Iowa Community Credit Union. Corporate tables for 10 are available.

Participating wineries include Bel Aire Estates, Eagle City Winery, Old Bank Winery, Prairie Moon Winery and Winneshiek Wildberry Winery. Participating brewers include Worth Brewing Co., Mill Stream Brewery, Toppling Goliath Brewery and Summit Brewing Co.

“Bring your sweetheart or come alone. It will be fun for everyone,” Lindgren said, noting that the event commonly draws 400 to 500 people.

Valenwine 2011 is sponsored by Diamond Jo Casino, Moorman Clothiers and Taco John’s.
