Jeff was born on August 4th, 1958 and passed away on March 6th, 2026 at the age of 67

Jeffrey J Heitland, 67, of Oelwein, Iowa, passed away suddenly Friday morning, March 6, 2026, at his home in Oelwein, Iowa, following a short battle with cancer.

Memorial Service: 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 13, 2026, at the Transco Event Center, 137 S. Frederick Ave., in Oelwein, Iowa, with Pastor Bill Black officiating.
Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein, Iowa, and for one hour before the service at the event center on Friday.
Inurnment: Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, Iowa.
Those in attendance are encouraged to honor Jeff by wearing golf apparel to the visitation and service.

Jeffrey J Heitland was born August 4, 1958, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Edwin “Bud” Dale and Mary Mabel (Taylor) Heitland. He attended Cresco High School and later studied Marketing at Ellsworth Community College. Jeff married his life partner Susan Diane O’Donnell, on November 14, 1981, in Mason City, Iowa. Together they built a life in Oelwein, where Jeff became a well-known and respected member of the community. In his later years, he took early retirement to pursue his passion working for Hickory Grove Golf Course where he was a lifelong member.

Jeff enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, and golfing. He could often be found at Hickory Grove Golf Course from sunup to sunset and truly loved the game of golf. Jeff shared this passion with friends, family and many others in the community. Jeff and Sue enjoyed traveling to visit family across the country and recently began traveling abroad where they enjoyed the trip of a lifetime to Greece.

Jeff is survived by his wife of 44 years: Sue Heitland of Oelwein; 2 children: Matthew (Jennifer) Heitland of Bainbridge Island, WA and Jennifer (David) McCready of Waterloo, IA.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Dawn Stoltenberg and in-laws: James and Ruth O’Donnell.

Jeff will be remembered as a kind, caring, and passionate husband, father, and friend. His family is grateful for the time and memories they shared with him.
