MASON CITY – The Mayor and City Council members held a goal setting session on October 14 to review and designate priorities for the community for the year 2021. Recent accomplishments, issues/concern/trends/opportunities and potential new initiatives/programs/policies were discussed in preparation for identifying the priorities for 2021.
A total of six main priorities were approved and outlined following the discussion. Following is a list of the priorities with the description outlined in no particular order:
A) Continue Blight Enforcement & Infill Development
1. More progress on blighted properties
2. Increase code compliance on nuisance abatements
3. Improvements to the North and South entry points into the city
4. Improvements to South Port
5. Implement housing study once completed
6. Communicate to the public accomplishments in this area
B) Infrastructure Improvements
1. Begin implementation in a stage approached traffic improvements along Highway 122 – e.g., turning lanes, signage, lighting, beautification, etc.
C) Complete River City Renaissance Project
1. Construction of Hotel
2. Construction of Pavilion
D) Willow Creek
1. Obtain grant for Riverwalk
2. Prepare for physical development
3. Design public improvements
4. Begin construction of public improvements
5. Attract private investment
E) Initiate Additional Outdoor Recreation Opportunities
1. Improve bike trail system
2. Complete High Line trail
3. Develop ways to utilize the Winnebago River
4. Repairs to existing trail system
F) Support and Coordinate Branding and Marketing of MC
Finally it looks like they will close in school learning down. Doing sports was a fail too. All indication is many states are reverting back to total lockdown. And with all the political parties involved it really does look like a MASSIVE stimulus will be here before the end of the year. The surging Corona is hitting it stride in ideal fashion. Winter is here, schools helped the spread, so did contact sports, and any other social gatherings that should have been banned. Imagine a 50% positivity rate? This is what city hall needs to focus on – saving life. State slush funds are about to get a big boost. Big fat coronie checks! Stay at home order sooner than later. Just do it.
