On February 1, 2026, just before 1 AM, a Clear Lake Police Officer conducted a traffic stop on a Chrysler when the officer observed that the driver was unable to maintain the vehicle in its lane while traveling south out of Clear Lake on S 8th St.
The driver was identified as 44-year-old Tyrone Richard Brooks of Klemme, Iowa. During the course of the traffic stop, officers learned Brooks had two juveniles’ passengers with him under the age of 11 and Brooks was showing signs of operating a motor vehicle while impaired.
Brooks was subsequently arrested and charged with the following crimes:
- Operating While Intoxicated 2nd Offense
-
Two counts of Child Endangerment.
The juveniles were released at the scene to a caregiver, and Brooks was transported to the Cerro Gordo County Jail to be held. Records show he bonded out a few hours later.
Records show Brooks (pictured at top) is a convicted felon on drug charges. Records further show that last June Brooks took a woman to court in Hancock county, demanding custody of children, a “PETITION FOR CUSTODY AND VISITATION” and that case is still in court. He was also charged in Klemme last year for having a dog running loose, and he was fined $180.75, but still owes almost the entire amount. A year prior, he was busted for disorderly conduct – loud or raucous noise, and ordered to pay $120.75 but owes most of that, too. Mason City police nabbed Brooks for drunk driving in 2019 and 2013.
