Robert was born on October 21st, 1940 and passed away on February 14th, 2026 at the age of 85

Robert J. “Bob” Newton, 85, of Oelwein, Iowa, died Saturday morning, February 14, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 A.M. Friday, February 20, 2026, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein, with Fr. Ray Atwood officiating.
Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, February 19, 2026, and from 8:30 to 9:30 A.M. Friday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein.
Military Memorial Service: 7:00 P.M. Thursday, at the funeral home by the Ross Reid American Legion Post #9 Honor Guard of Oelwein.
Parish Scripture Service: Immediately following the Military Memorial Service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Inurnment: Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein.

Robert John Newton was born October 21, 1940, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Thomas John and Mary (Kerns) Newton. He graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Fairbank, Iowa. After high school, Bob proudly served in the United States Navy. On April 18, 1964, he was united in marriage to Rosemary Kay Napoli at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. In 1993, Bob retired from John Deere in Waterloo. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Ross Reid American Legion Post #9. Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, being outdoors, gardening, gambling, traveling and bowling.

Robert is survived by his wife: Rose Newton of Oelwein; 4 children: Gina Newton of Cedar Rapids, Rachelle (Darrin) Molyneux of Marion, Bobby Newton of Oelwein and Becky (Steve) Koch of Oelwein; grandson: Tony Koch of Oelwein; 3 sisters: Beverly Copenhaver of Independendence, Janet (Junior) Covington of Brandon and Doris (Ron) Rechkemmer of Mason City; and many nieces; nephews; and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law: Leo and Mary Napoli; brothers-in-law: John Napoli and Philip Copenhaver; and sister-in-law: Carolyn Napoli.
