Man shot dead in Fort Dodge, police charge suspect with murder

FORT DODGE – A man was found shot dead in Fort Dodge Tuesday morning, and police quickly investigated and nabbed a murder suspect.

On Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025, at approximately 1:04 AM, the Webster County Telecommunications Center received a call of a gun shot in the area of 524 N 28th Street in Fort Dodge. Officers with the Fort Dodge Police Department were dispatched to the area.

When officers arrived, they located a deceased adult male suffering from a gunshot wound outside of the apartment building. Investigators were called in to provide assistance. Officers and investigators canvassed the neighborhood, conducted interviews, and gathered evidence. The deceased male’s was not immediately released, and an investigation was ongoing. Investigators with the Criminal Investigations Division, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations, and the Webster County Attorney’s Office continued to follow up on the incident.

The Fort Dodge Police Department was assisted by the Webster County Sheriff’s Office, the Webster County Attorney’s Office, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations, the Webster County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Fort Dodge Fire Department.

In the hours following the homicide that occurred on Tuesday, September 2, police investigators with the Fort Dodge Police Department, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations, and the Webster County Attorney’s Office have continued to follow up on any and all leads related to the homicide. As a result of the ongoing investigation thus far, 38‐year old Rolman H. Recinos Gonzales (pictured at top) of Fort Dodge has been arrested on the following charges:

– Murder in the First Degree (A Felony)

– Trafficking in Stolen Weapons (D Felony)

– Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons (Serious Misdemeanor)

Police say they are still not releasing the identity of our adult male victim as they have been unable to make contact with next of kin.

Investigators are continuing to follow up on all credible leads and encourage anyone with information to contact the Fort Dodge Police Department. Information may also be submitted anonymously via Crime Stoppers.

Over the course of the last few days, investigators have been diligently working to make contact with our homicide victims next of kin. Contact was eventually made, and they were informed of the death of their family member. The victim of the Tuesday, September 2nd homicide is 45‐year‐old Justo Cruz Calindo of Fort Dodge.
