Charles City domestic abuser caught honing his craft once again

CHARLES CITY – This convicted Charles City domestic abuser was at it again Thursday, police say, and he’s behind bars today awaiting his next dose of justice.

On May 1, 2025, at 3:58 PM, officers with the Charles City police department responded to a call for help from a residence is the 1500 block of Salzer Street. Police were told a fight was in progress. After an investigation, officers arrested 45-year-old Jasper Clay of Charles City on a charge of felony deomestic abuse assault – third or subsequent offense.

Clay was was booked into the Floyd county jail that same day at 4:30 PM. He remains held in jail, under a no-contact order, with a public defender appointed. He awaits a preliminary hearing set for May 21 at 8:45 AM.

Clay was charged by Charles City police back on December 26, 2018 with felony domestic abuse assault and convicted just days later in plea deal, on January 10, 2019. He was sentenced to a suspended fine, 2 years of probation and 365 days in jail – with 358 suspended. However, that same month, he violated his probation and his sentence was modified to 90 days in jail.
