Authorities nab alleged murderer that shot Iowa man

A suspect is behind bars after he allegedly shot and killed an Iowa man days ago, nabbed by police and U.S. Marshalls.

IOWA CITY – A suspect is behind bars after he allegedly shot and killed an Iowa man days ago.

The Iowa City Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at 11:57 PM on Saturday, March 29, 2025 in the 1800 Block of South Gilbert Street.

Responding officers located a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The victim was later identified as Elijah Williams, 38, of Iowa City.

As a result of the police investigation into the shooting, Iowa City Police and the U.S. Marshals Service arrested 44-year-old Antavis M.W. Watson, address unknown, on Tuesday, April 1.

Watson (pictured at top) faces the following charges:

– First-Degree Murder

– Attempted Murder

– Possession of a Firearm as a Felon

This case remains under investigation by the Iowa City Police Department, Johnson County Attorney’s Office, the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. No other information is available at this time.
