RURAL FLOYD COUNTY – A pickup truck engulfed in flames was mercifully doused with cool water by Charles City firefighters before a hay court could join in the blaze.

At 8:38 PM on Friday, June 14, 2023, Charles City firefighters were sent to a vehicle on fire in the 3100 block of 210th street, just outside town. Firefighting crews arrived on scene to find a pickup fully engulfed in flames. Once on scene, crews were able to extinguish the flames.

Chatfield towing removed the completely charred vehicle from the roadway.

All occupants of the vehicle were unharmed and were able to detach the hay cart before it ignited.

After refueling and cleaning equipment, all CCFD trucks were returned to service, the department said.
