CERRO GORDO COUNTY – A Thornton man was hurt after his pickup collided with a semi near Swaledale Wednesday evening.

On October 19, 2022, at about 5:28 PM, deputies with the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 190th Street and Indigo Avenue. Deputies investigated at the scene and found that a tractor-trailer, driven by 31-year-old Scott Watson of Mason City, was westbound on 190th Street. A Chevrolet truck driven by 20-year-old Jordan Thompson of Thornton, Iowa, was southbound on Indigo Ave. and failed to yield at the intersection, striking the grain trailer driven by Watson. The driver of the semi, Watson, was uninjured. The driver of the truck, Thompson, was taken to Mercy One by Mason City Fire Medics with non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident remains under investigation and charges are possible.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Mason City Fire Medics, Swaledale Volunteer Fire Department, and Iowa DOT Enforcement.
