MASON CITY – A head-on collision Saturday morning in Mason City has claimed one life, police say.
On July 24, 2021, at 6:30 AM, Mason City Police Department, Cerro Gordo County Sheriff Department, Iowa State Patrol, and Mason City Fire Department responded to the 3500 block of South Federal for a two-vehicle accident.
Police said one driver is deceased and the other driver was taken to Mercy One. The investigation into this accident is still on going. Anyone with further information is encouraged to contact the Mason City Police Department.
According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, a 2017 Chevy Cruze driven by 17-year-old CAMMIE HAACK of Hampton was traveling north on Highway 65 in the city’s south side and drifted into a turn lane. At the same time, a 2019 GMC Acadia driven by 30-year-old Joanna Gautier of Charles City was traveling southbound in the inside lane of hwy 65 at the same location; both units hit entirely head
on.
Neither the report, nor police, disclosed the name of the deceased. However, a Gofundme account was opened for “Funeral Expenses for Cammie Lee Haack” … the link is here.

Texting when driving needs stiff penalties and effect driving records just like a speeding ticket.
She wasn’t texting and driving. Quit assuming!
when your looking at your phones screen, you dont see the other car, whamo
Grow up. Someone is dead, and you’re using words like “whamo”? Please learn to be respectful.
How does this happen on a flat stretch of highway.
TEXTING
Not any more!
Good response!!!
You’re cruel.
ACTUALLY. The deceased young lady FELL ASLEEP while driving. SHE WAS 17!!! It has been almost a year and her family is still grieving. QUIT assuming! SHOW RESPECT. If you are not here to make comments that may be helpful, or sending condolences, then please keep your comment to yourself.
Were they both blind? I was traveling in the left lane of a one way street when a lady made a right turn right at me. I slowed down, put my flashers on, and the situation was amicably corrected. How do two supposedly adult drivers hit each other head on???
