Roosevelt Elementary School in Mason City, Iowa
MASON CITY – The Mason City Community School District will be implementing an emergency food program starting Tuesday, March 17. A curbside lunch pick up with your child ages 1-18 will be available at Roosevelt Elementary and Harding Elementary from 11:00 am-1:00 pm daily. Parents do not need to be present if students are able to pick up the food items themselves. This free meal and snack is being provided for all children 18 and under living in Mason City. Our plan is to provide this service Monday through Friday while school is not in session. We will continue to monitor and assess this need as we respond to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

If delivery is needed please contact Sarah Mariner, Food Service Supervisor, at 641-421-4501. We will continue to evaluate and consider expansion of service locations as needed.

What to know:

Food is to be taken and eaten off of school grounds at the time of pick up.

Staff will not be available to interact or answer questions during this time.

Students and parents are not allowed inside the building during this time to honor the need of social distancing.

At this time, due to federal mandates, each individual receiving a meal needs to be present for pick up.

Pick up Time – 11:00 am – 1:00 pm

Pick up Locations – Roosevelt Elementary and Harding Elementary

  1. This is fantastic news for the kids of all ages. My sister who is a teacher told me that sometimes the school lunch is the best meal some kids receive all day. No fault of the kids at all.
Glad to see this program in place. Happy to donate just tell me where..

        1. Maybe they do, Regardless, do you want them to go without just because their parents are negligent? If we punish children because of the things their parents do, what should we do to your children?

          1. yes, in your eyes/mind we taught them to be self sufficient, street smart and not rely on the gov’t to support them.

  2. Can the Mason City School District also share their plan according to Governor Reynolds school closure recommendation of four weeks? Providing lunches is absolutely a Priority, but parents need to know the plan beyond “extending Spring Break for 5 days.” Every school district around here has posted their 30 day postponement of classes except MC? Please communicate the plans for our community. Thank you.
