North Iowa law enforcement team up to catch Omaha meth dealer in Mason City

MASON CITY - An alleged Omaha drug dealer was caught in Mason City with nine lbs. of the dangerous, highly-addictive substance Friday afternoon.

MASON CITY – An alleged Omaha drug dealer was caught in Mason City with nine lbs. of the dangerous, highly-addictive substance Friday afternoon.

On February 23, 2024, at 4:41 PM, investigators with the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department conducted a controlled take down of a suspected narcotics trafficker, 38-year-old Jose L Velez Sr. of Omaha, Nebraska. Cops caught the suspect at 24th Street SW and South Monroe Avenue in Mason City. A search of the suspect’s stopped vehicle was conducted, and approximately 9 pounds of Ice Methamphetamine was recovered.

Velez was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver a Class B felony and Failure to Affix a drug tax stamp a class D felony.

Cerro Gordo County Sheriffs Department was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, North Iowa Narcotics Task Force and the Clear Lake Police Department. The case is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call local law enforcement.
