Iowa chiropractor sent to prison for aggressive sex acts

BOONE, IOWA – An Iowa chiropractor was sent to prison today for up to 10 years for performing aggressive sex acts on his victims.

A Boone County District Court today sentenced Daniel Joseph Duffy, age 53 of Perry, Iowa, to 10 years in prison for Sexual Abuse in the 3rd Degree, a class C Felony. Duffy pled guilty to this charge in the Boone County District Court on April 10, 2017.

According to the Complaint and Affidavit filed with the court: between October 1, 2005 to April 30, 2006, Daniel Joseph Duffy, committed a sex act with a child around 12 to 15 years of age.

According to Iowa Courts On-Line, Daniel Duffy was previously convicted by a Dallas County jury on April 26, 2011 of Simple Assault. According to the Iowa Board of Professional License and the Board of Chiropractic of the State of Iowa Daniel Duffy had his chiropractic license suspended for five years on September 7, 2011. Pursuant to the public documents, Daniel Duffy was treating an adult female patient on January 12, 2010. During this treatment session Daniel Duffy touched his genitals to the patient’s lower back and ejaculated on the female patient. This patient went to the police and a DNA profile was performed on the sperm matching that of Daniel Duffy.

During Daniel Duffy’s sentencing hearing on his current case in Boone County both sides argued to the court for a sentencing recommendation. The District Court heard from the victim and an immediate relative of the victim’s in an emotional impact statement to the court about the effects of the abuse Daniel Duffy committed on the victim. After statements the District Court judge sentenced Daniel Duffy to the Iowa Department of Corrections for 10 years in prison and that Daniel Duffy be placed on lifetime parole and lifetime registry requirements. The maximum sentence for Sexual Abuse in the 3rd Degree is 10 years with the Iowa Department of Corrections.

The Boone County Attorney’s Office represented the State of Iowa. The Boone County Sheriff’s Office and the Perry Police Department investigated the case.
