WEST DES MOINES – A woman was shot in the head and her attacking boyfriend fatally shot himself, in a Des Moines suburb Monday afternoon.
On Monday, January 16, 2023, at approximately 3:53 PM, West Des Moines Police responded to a 911 call about a shooting that had just occurred at a townhome located at 9027 Copper Drive. When officers arrived at the residence, they located an injured female, with a gunshot wound to her head. They also located a deceased male in front of the residence, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The female has been transported to a local hospital where she remains with serious injuries.
The West Des Moines Police Department have identified the victim as Jayme Ekis, 41 and the deceased male as Chad Michael, 42 both of West Des Moines. Through the course of a detailed investigation, detectives have determined this unfortunate incident to be an attempted murder-suicide that took place at the residence.
