Illinois man hurt in crash in Mitchell county

MITCHELL COUNTY – A three-vehicle crash on a desolate stretch of Highway 9 in Mitchell county left an Illinois man injured and hospitalized.

The accident took place Sunday, February 26 at about 7:25 PM at Cameo Avenue and Highway 9, about halfway between Osage and Manly. Nathan Schrom, age 30 of Austin, Minnesota, was driving his semi truck westbound on Highway 9 when he saw an oncoming car cross the center line. Chaudhary Jigarkumar Jitendrakumar, age 25 of Woodridge, Illinois, was the driver of that 2014 Toyota Camry. Schram slowed down, but could not avoid the collision that ensued. In the crash, the semi lost a shell, which proceeded to strike a 2002 Grand Am driven by 16-year-old Bailey Young of Osage.

As a result of the crash, Jitendrakumar – who was wearing a seatbelt – was injured. The Mercy Airmed helicopter was called in to transport him to Mercy in Mason City.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by Mitchell County sheriff’s office.
