Senator Amanda Ragan complains that tariffs are hitting Iowa job and economy “from all sides”

Senator Amanda Ragan

The following is a legislative update from Senator Amanda Ragan of Mason City:

Iowa workers, farmers, businesses and our entire state economy are facing the fallout from an international trade war.

The U.S. has imposed tariffs on billions of dollars in Chinese goods, and China has responded with tariffs that hit Iowa exports especially hard. Similar standoffs are starting to emerge with other countries, including Canada and Mexico.

This is bad news. New tariffs on many key exports can hit Iowa hard. We’re already seeing layoffs, halted business expansions, and products selling for lower prices to defray the tariffs.

A recent Creighton University survey of Midwest bankers found that:

· More than 80 percent think a lack of qualified workers is having a negative impact on local hiring.
· About 60 percent expect farm prices to decline over the next year.
· Above 83 percent are responding to weak farm income by rejecting more loan applications, raising interest rates, reducing loan size or increasing collateral requirements.

In April, I joined 20 other Iowa state senators in asking President Trump to consider the negative consequences of a tariff war on Iowa farmers, rural communities and others whose livelihood is threatened.

At the state level, we can refocus our priorities and improve our situation by:

· Expanding affordable job training and education that build a skilled workforce.
· Enhancing what makes Iowa communities desirable places to live and work.
· Restoring fiscal discipline, and balancing the state budget.

Biggest sham going is this lack of workers to fill so many of these abundant jobs out there. These so called background checks are BS as even if all your ducks are in a row they still come up with some lame ass reason why not to hire you. Truth is these fcktards are lying. Working conditions are going back to the day of no respect from the fat cats. Amazon Bozo runs a sweat shop period. The third world working conditions have infiltrated the United States. These tariffs just could be another way of them saying “Gee the jobs were here but now there gone”. Or better yet ” Hi, I’m thirty something and invented an online newspaper. Now I’m worth 70 billion. Gee I must really be smart. Call me mister Facebook”. Roflmao

The dumocrats need to let it all shake out in time. In a year or two we might see refrigerators and washing machines made in Iowa again. MAGA

Vote Democrat. Embrace socialism. Abolish ICE. Impeach Trump, Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House. Raise our taxes.

The road ahead for Iowa does look perilous indeed. Now all that we need is a good long old fashion drought to drive the dagger home. Perhaps beans will stoop to $3.78 in the future which is all the more reason to start growing hemp to save the family farm.

“80 percent think a lack of qualified workers is having a negative impact on local hiring” There’s a generation or more of people out there that don’t want to work, period. It’s easier to sell drugs or sit home waiting for that welfare check. Maybe if they cut off that welfare check, it would make people get a job. Other posters are correct, we have been taking care of other countries way to long, and some of those countries hate us. I’m not saying that everything Trump does is right, but standing up to countries that have been taking advantage of us, is. Why should the American tax payers support the world. Besides, what about our man Terry, can’t he make a deal with China that would help Iowa/America, under the table is OK, since it’s the thing to do these days.

America has BEEN in a trade war for the last 40 years. If she would have cared to check, WE have been LOSING that trade war! America loses around ONE TRILLION dollars per year. President Trump has finally launched a “counter attack”.

Ragan needs to educate herself and realize America needs to regain our wealth.

Fighting for “FAIR TRADE” is a fight worth fighting!

I agree with her – closing the rest stops in Iowa and selling our state parks to international companies would help the farmers and her deep state bank account out .

How about Bill Clinton, RINOS and NAFTA which destroyed millions of jobs as well as illegal immigration. Trump is exactly right we have been taken advantage of for too LONG!! I work 6-7 days per week to subsidize the RINOS cheap labor and the Dumbocrata votes. As well as to protect the world. I’m tired of working 70 hours per so we can protect France and Germany while they work 30 hours per week and make deals with Russian oil..
