MASON CITY – A convicted felony domestic abuser is guilty of defacing jail property and now waits for his comfy bed at the Beje Clark halfway house.
Wesley Perry Sanders-Lane graduated from alcohol-related offenses in Charles City to a much more serious offense once he migrated west to Mason City. Police say that on September 13, 2016, he committed a felony domestic abuse assault that involved strangulation. He finally pled guilty and on December 12 he was given a suspended 5-year prison term, a suspended fine, and three years of probation. He must pay $552.00 in court fees and costs. Additionally, he must reside at the Beje Clark halfway house in Mason City for 180 days. Currently, he is still int he Cerro Gordco county jail awaiting bed space at that facility.
Just days before his sentencing, on December 4, 2016, Sanders-Lane, age 29, did intentionally damage, deface, alter or destroy tangible property at the Cerro Gordo jail. He “took the magnets that was covering his cell door and tore them up,” according to a report. “This caused them to be not useful anymore and are completely destroyed.”
Due that action, Sanders-Lane was charged with criminal mischief. He was ordered to pay $387.50 in fines and court fees.
