Dougherty motorist flees possible drunk driving stop, ends up in hospital

cerro gordo county sheriffs officeDOUGHERTY – A deputy attempted to stop a possible drunk driver who refused to pull over and instead rolled the pickup into a ditch and was ejected from the vehicle.

On November 19, 2016 12:28 A.M., a Cerro Gordo County Deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on a 2005 Chevy K2500HD near 280th Street and Balsam Avenue in Floyd County. The pickup refused to stop for approximetely one minute. The pickup lost control and rolled into the ditch. The driver, 30-year-old Courtney Demaray of Dougherty, was ejected from the pickup. Demaray sustained serious injuries from the collision and was transported to Mercy Medical Center by Greene Ambulance. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the collision.

The collision is being investigated by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriffs Office and the Iowa State Patrol.

Assisting the Cerro Gordo County Sheriffs Department was the Iowa State Patrol, Mason City Fire Department, Greene Ambulance, Dougherty Fire Department, Floyd County Sheriffs Office, and Marble Rock First Responders.
