MUSCATINE, IOWA – During the evening hours of January 15, 2016, Iowa law enforcement shot a suspect in a stolen Hummer after that vehicle was reported stolen from the parking lot of a Mexican restaurant.
According to the Muscatine police department, at about 10:08 PM on January 15, a blue 2008 Hummer owned by Alberto Jimenez-Diaz of Muscatine was reported stolen from he Guadalajara Restaurant parking lot. Minutes later, the vehicle was located by a sheriff’s deputy inbound on Highway 61 and pulled over; Muscatine police also arrived. However, the driver attempted to drive away from the scene and struck several vehicles parked nearby, including a fully-marked law enforcement vehicle.
Law enforcement preceded to open fire. The driver was struck and taken to a local hospital and then transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.
Preliminary reports indicate only the deputy discharged his duty weapon. Per protocol, the names of the deputy and police officer will not be released until they have been interviewed. Additional information will be released when it becomes available.
Its sad that these so called police think that killing someone simply trying to get away is the answer.. #trainingistheproblem
