Woman in mental health facility accused of stealing from other residents

FAYETTE, IOWA – A woman housed in a troubled Iowa mental health facility was arrested for stealing from other residents this weekend.

On Sunday, April 19, 2015 the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Prairieview Residential Center in Fayette, Iowa, in reference to a theft of cash by a resident. Upon investigation, it was learned that 18-year-old Tiesha Pierce of Hubbard, Iowa had stolen some cash from other residents. She was placed under arrest for Theft in the 5th Degree and transported to the Fayette County Jail where she was held for an initial appearance in court.

Prairieview Residential Center has approximately 90 beds and documents show it is full most of the time with people needing 24-hour care and supervision. Within the last several years, there have been a number of assaults and at least one murder committed there.
