Rockwell woman must pay $30K restitution after stealing from employer

CLEAR LAKE – A former Clear Lake pharmacy technician accused stealing tens of thousands of dollars from her employer has been sentenced to probation and given a deferred judgement after a guilty plea to felony theft.

Clear Lake police said last October that as a result of a lengthy on-going investigation, 29-year-old Abigail L. Roberts of Rockwell was charged with felony B on-going criminal conduct and felony C first degree theft. Through the investigation, it was found Roberts had taken in excess of $30,000 from her former employer, Clear Lake Pharmacy, where she was employed as a pharmacy technician. It was found the theft had taken place on numerous occasions through several different methods as far back as 2012 and as recent as July of 2014. Roberts was arrested Sunday, October 12 on arrest warrants stemming from the charges.

Roberts initially entered a not guilty plea through her lawyer, Tim LaPointe, and was set for a jury trial after a number of postponements. However, after depositions and a vistim impact statement were taken, Roberts entered a guilty plea on February 5.

Judge Christopher Foy dismissed a charge of ongoing criminal conduct. Roberts pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of felony second degree theft after being charged with first degree theft. She was given a deferred judgement and 5 years of probation. In addition, Roberts must pay $30,000 in restitution as well as $1,116.00 in fines and court fees. She must also submit a DNA sample.
