CHARLES CITY – Law enforcement are on the lookout for scammers looking for gullible persons who need construction work done.
Last week, police in Charles City were warned by The Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office about an on-going issue in Chickasaw county involving building contractors from out of the area perpetrating scams upon citizens. Information about the scam was passed along and Charles City police were advised that the scammers could move to Floyd county or Charles City area.
No specific information on the type of scam was detailed.
Typical signs that a building contractor is running a scam or is potentially dishonest are: Unverifiable references; a “too good to be true” offer; special prices if a contract is signed on the spot; accepts only cash; customer is pressured to submit a large deposits or full cost up front; bid discrepancies.
