CHARLES CITY – A Marble Rock man who threatened to shoot police last November was sentenced this week after working out a plea deal.

On May 20, 2014, 32-year-old John Edwin Marzen pled guilty to harassment and carrying weapons. He was assessed $11,000.00 in court costs, while two-year jail terms were suspended. He served 58 days of jail and inpatient treatment.  A two-year probation was imposed.

Marzen originally pled not guilty to felony D going armed with intent, first degree harassment, carrying weapons and public intoxication after a November 25, 2013 incident where he allegedly made threatening phone calls in Franklin county to emergency 911 dispatchers and threatened to shoot a police officer near Marble Rock. He was later arrested by Floyd county deputies.
