MASON CITY – The Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors met for their regular weekly meeting Tuesday morning.

The meetings are set for 9:45 AM, but when 9:45 AM arrived, no Supervisors were in the room.  They walked in shortly later and the meeting began a few minutes late.

The board heard a road report from Mary Kelly. She noted that there is still some standing water near roadways that could cause problems. “We haven’t had anything too major yet,” Kelly said, compared to other counties that have lost bridges, for example.  “We’re lucky we’re not up in Mitchell County,” Supervisor Bob Amosson said.

Kelly also reported that a bridge replacement is being discussed in Rock Falls. The bridge crosses the Shell Rock River and is considered historic. She attended the city council meeting there Monday, she said, and wanted to assess where they are at with their preference. She stated that their main concern is the narrowness of the current bridge and that some are in favor of replacing the bridge. “There’s mixed feelings,” Kelly said.

NOTE: A Highway B-20 reconstruction project from Eagle Avenue to 300th Street was awarded last week to Heartland Asphalt.  It has been in the construction program and was let through the DOT in May.  The county received bids and the project was awarded on June 4th.  Heartland Asphalt, Inc. was awarded the contract in the amount of $1,989,410.73.  The late start date is June 24th with 75 working days.

Collective bargaining agreements were approved with PPME  Local Union 2003 representing courthouse employees and road workers.  Medial insurance rates continue to rise.  See the video below for all the figures as outlined by Tom Drzycimski, Administrative Officer.

Three fireworks permits were approved.

  1. Matt, be careful around Jay. I think he might be gay. He’s always looking at you like that. Lol.

    1. That is a funny picture. Every week it’s something new. The look on Urdahl’s face is priceless.

      1. Urdahl … something not right with that guy. Is he really only 59 years old because he looks like he’s 75 or older. Just sayin. I think he’ll be a supervisor till he’s 100.
