A federal judge ordered Arpaio two weeks ago to stop using race or ancestry when determining which drivers are pulled over by police, The Christian Science Monitor reported Friday.
Tim Casey, Arpaio’s attorney, said his client has backed away from the controversial enforcement program.
“There will not be roundups of people because they were in the country unlawfully, period,” Casey said.
At an upcoming hearing, Arpaio will discuss with lawyers and a judge how he can ensure there are “no further uses of race in any law enforcement decisions,” Casey said.
Evelyn Cruz, an immigration law professor at Arizona State University in Tempe, said the ruling in Arpaio’s case will likely have an effect nationwide.
“Officers across the country will make sure that their policies are well written, and that their officers are well trained, and that they don’t just shoot from the hip,” Cruz said.

Well, it will still be rough for Joe because I’ll bet the illegals still break the most traffic laws. His cars will need to have videos pointing in every which direction or on the deputies’ caps to prove the deputies saw probable cause. Citizens of Maricopa County either love him or they hate him. This is a good thing. Sheriff Joe is a racist backwater thug. I’m all for enforcing immigration laws but what this guy did was no different than Hitler rounding up the Jews. Simply pulling people over for “looking Mexican” and forcing them to prove residency is not proper law enforcement, see “probable cause” classes at any law enforcement academy for reference. In doing this, he and his henchmen also rounded up a fair number of American Indians, Hindus and other legal citizens from places like India for example. I was there, I saw it. He sucks, and the court told him so.

I used to live down there and they are not profiling them, if they pull them over it’s because they were doing something wrong. They ask for their license, registration and proof of insurance and if they think they might be illegal they ask for their papers. Whats so wrong about that?
