Obit: Marjorie (Margie) Anne Johnson, 71

Marjorie (Margie) Anne Johnson, 71, of 809 S. Polk, Mason City, IA , passed away Friday May 11, 2012 at the Rockwell Nursing Home in Rockwell, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday May 14, 2012 at the Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 2nd St. S.E., Mason City, with Pastor Larry Day officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 2nd ST. SE, Mason City, and one hour prior to services on Monday. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery Sheffield, Iowa immediately following the service.

Margie was the oldest child of six children born to Albert (John) and Helen (Van Hieden) Cheney.  She was born in Mason City on November 24, 1940. Margie lived all her life in and around Mason City.  At age 16 she quit school to move in and take care of her grandparents until they both passed away in 1959.  She then moved back home for one year.  Then she moved back to Mason City in the fall of 1960 starting her career as a Nurse Aid. She worked as a Nurse Aid for 33 plus years working in several nursing homes in Mason City.  This was a job she really enjoyed.  Her last job was at Walmart as a door greeter for four years.

Margie married Wayne Dean Johnson in May of 1980 after going with Wayne for 16 years.  Wayne passed away in May of 1980 from lung cancer.  To this union two sons were born, Stephen Wayne Johnson and Michael Dean Johnson.  Margie’s pride and joy was in her sons.  She loved being and doing anything with her sons.  They would take vacation trips, day trips on weekends where they would go antiquing, shopping, attending sporting events, country music concerts and much more together.  Her siblings and their families were very important to her also.  She looked forward to family gatherings, holidays and picnics. She loved to be with all of her family.  She loved cooking, baking, flower gardening, traveling the USA along with bird feeding.   Her favorite sports to watch were the Iowa Hawkeyes basketball and football, the Chicago Cubs, Pittsburg Steelers, curling and bowling.

She is survived by her two sons, Stephen Wayne Johnson and Michael Dean Johnson of Mason City, IA; two brothers Ron (Roxie) Cheney, Arizona, Kevin (Kathy) Cheney, Mason City, IA; three sisters, Lee (Larry) Montgomery, Charles City, IA, Barb Marker, Mason City, IA, Sheila (Tom) Hacker, Alden; five nieces, one nephew and ten great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother in law and grandparents.
