NIACC Marketing Department Receives National Award

The Marketing Department at North Iowa Area Community College has received a national award for a recent ad campaign.

The National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) presented its highest award, a Gold Paragon, to NIACC in the Outdoor Media category. The award was announced at the organization’s annual conference in San Francisco on March 13.

The winning ad featured NIACC student Mary Knudsen of St. Ansgar on a billboard. In the photo, the student appears to be overwhelmed with heavy books, making it look as though she has fallen to the ground. The headline reads: “Lighten Your Load. Take a Class This Summer.”

“The thought behind this campaign was to give students a visual example of how NIACC can help them lighten their course load by encouraging them to take a summer class at NIACC,” said NIACC Marketing Director Michele Appelgate.

“We want high school students to know they could get a head start on college. We also want to reach out to North Iowa students who were home on break from other colleges and universities so they understand they can always take a summer class and easily transfer it back to their college or university. NIACC is affordable and we make the transfer easy for students, so it’s a win-win situation.”
