Robert “Bob” Charles Turner, the son of David Robert and Elsie Claire (Jacobs) Turner, was born April 8, 1947, in Charles City, Iowa. With his father being in the military, Bob lived in several states and Germany throughout his childhood with the family setting in Charles City in 1962. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1965.

Interested in art and design since the age of five, Bob devoted many years to creative projects of all kinds. At thirteen, he studied oil painting with a German artist in Pirmasens, Germany. With that training and inspiration, Bob produced over 200 oils, landscape and animal subjects during his teenage years. Commercial education began at fourteen with training from the Minneapolis School of Art. Later education was at the University of Iowa, University of Northern Iowa and Hawkeye Tech.

Career activities have been numerous and widely diverse. Oil paintings, pastels, ink drawings for individuals and interior decorators were but a part of his twenty years of experience. Special projects include a large mural for The Red Lake Inn located in Red Lake, Ontario and eight paintings of historical buildings and sites of Hastings, Minnesota for the city. Most recently, Bob worked on ink prints of historical Charles City, Iowa and other paintings of Midwest subject matter.

Bob was also an international designer for 3M Company for fifteen years. He created graphics for many U.S. companies as well as work for Japanese companies and European concerns. He produced advertising, displays and product concepts. His last endeavor was as owner of Turner Concepts in Mason City, Iowa, accepting creative challenges of all types (commercial and fine arts subjects) along with his faithful canine companion Concho. Bob’s retirement years were spent in Hampton, Iowa enjoying NASCAR racing, football and time with his cat, Hollywood.

Living family members include his son, Lon (Loretta) Turner of Souris, Manitoba, Canada; grandchildren: Hayden, Jenna and Chelsea; sister, Kathy Shawhan of Charles City; niece, Jessie Shawhan (Chuck Faux) of Des Moines; and great-nephew, Joseph (Carlee) Ginther.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents; parents; and niece, Michelle Shawhan.

Bob’s family would like to thank the caring staff at Franklin Country View in Hampton, Iowa for the wonderful care given to him these past few months.
