MASON CITY – The Iowa 122 reconstruction project between Monroe Avenue and Pierce Avenue in Mason City will be entering its second year on Monday, March 16, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Mason City construction office.
Monroe Avenue will be the focus for the first stage of construction this season that is expected to take two months. The Iowa 122/Monroe Avenue intersection will be reconstructed which requires partially closing the intersection. For approximately the first three weeks you will not be able to make any left turns at Monroe Avenue and Iowa 122 from any direction. If you travel on Monroe Avenue you will not be allowed to cross Iowa 122.
Westbound Iowa 122
You will be allowed to turn north (right) to reach Monroe Avenue.
Westbound Iowa 122 will be accessible for those heading south on Monroe Avenue.
Eastbound Iowa 122
You will be allowed to turn south (right) to reach Monroe Avenue.
Eastbound Iowa 122 will be accessible for those travelling northbound on Monroe Avenue.
After the first three weeks traffic on Iowa 122 will continue to move east and west through the intersection, but Monroe Avenue traffic will not be able to cross or enter Iowa 122 during this phase. The second phase is expected to last approximately five weeks.
Mercy Hospital and Clinic traffic on Iowa 122 can still access the facility from Crescent Drive and Mercy Drive from either direction.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
