Steve King and Christie Vilsack sling mud in dueling emails today

Incumbent Republican Steve King and Democratic challenger Christie Vilsack are battling it out in cyberspace for the newly-created fourth district congressional seat, which will serve western Iowa and the Mason City area.

Both sent out nasty emails this morning.

First, Christie Vilsack’s camp emailed “In Iowa we’re taught the values of hard work, responsibility, and respect. I think we can all agree those are good values. Congressman Steve King? I’m not sure where his values come from, but they don’t seem like they are Iowa values.”

The email goes on to say “Does Steve King share your values when he defends his opposition to strengthening prohibitions on animal fighting? When he suggests that President Obama’s birth announcement was telegraphed from Kenya? When he claims it’s legal in America for a sexual predator to abduct their victims, take them across state lines, and force them to have an abortion? Or when he says there’s no evidence to suggest diversity is valuable?”

Then the King camp sent their email a few minutes later.  King’s email claims that “Out-of-state liberal interests are trying to buy this election for Christie Vilsack.”

“32% of her donations have come from America’s most liberal areas—New York, California, Illinois and Washington, DC.” the email claims. Included among these liberal out-of-state donors are President Bill Clinton, Obama Advisor David Axelrod, Warren Buffett and his wife, former Obama Chief of Staff and Chicago Democrat Machine figurehead Bill Daley and former New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine.”

King finishes up by punishing Vilsack for her values.

“If Vilsack wins this race, it’ll be devastating for Iowa families,” the King caml claims.  “She doesn’t share our wholesome Iowa values. She supports abortion—in fact she’s been endorsed by two of the most influential pro-abortion organizations, Emily’s List and Planned Parenthood—and she’s announced her support for repealing the Defense of Marriage Act. Worse, Vilsack supports the largest tax hike in American history raising taxes on small businessmen and women and the middle class!”

Meanwhile, the Des Moines Register has reported that Iowa Democrats have asked for an ethics investigation by the Office of Congressional Ethics into King’s behavior at a July town hall meeting, where he allegedly launched political attacks against Vilsack.  “The event was promoted by his congressional office on his official Facebook page, through a mass email from his congressional staff, and by his congressional press aides on Twitter, Democrats said.”
