ATLANTIC, IOWA — An Iowa man evaded the most-serious of charges after a trial in the violent death of his tiny 15-month-old daughter.
Corbin Loudermilk, age 26, was sentenced on Monday, March 9, 2026, to a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison for his role in the 2025 death of his one-month-old daughter, Kahlani Loudermilk.
The sentencing in Cass County District Court followed a plea agreement reached late last month.
According to records, Loudermilk pleaded guilty to a class-B felony charge of Child Endangerment resulting in death. A more severe class-A felony charge of First-Degree Murder was dismissed. In addition to his prison term, Loudermilk was ordered to pay $150,000 in restitution.
The charges stemmed from an investigation into an incident on January 4, 2025. According to court documents, the infant suffered severe head injuries, including brain swelling and hemorrhaging, while under Loudermilk’s care. Medical experts determined the trauma was consistent with impact or shaking. The Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office subsequently ruled the death a homicide caused by cerebrospinal trauma.
Loudermilk (pictured at top) had been held in the Cass County Jail on a $1 million bond since his initial arrest in April 2025.

According to an obituary, “Kahlani Ember Loudermilk was born December 9, 2024, to Janae Bennum and Corbin Loudermilk. She passed from this life on Monday, January 6, 2025. Kahlani will be forever loved and missed by her mommy and daddy, Janae and Corbin; her big brother, Roman; her grandma and grandpa, Donna and Bill Bennum; her grandma, Melissa Balch; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and family friends.
