Hammer-weilding man goes on the attack in small Northern Iowa town

CLERMONT, IOWA – Police raced to this remote Northern Iowa town after a suspect allegedly pick up a hammer and started swinging.

On March 4, 2026, at 12:37 PM, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a disturbance in the 800 block of Spring Street in the City of Clermont. When deputies arrived, they had received a report of a male fleeing the scene with a hammer, after damaging a vehicle and window at an apartment on Iowa Street.

A search of the area was conducted, and the male was located and identified as 52-year-old Carteiz King of Clermont, Iowa.  After further investigation, King was arrested and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding Air/Bloodflow, an Aggravated Misdemeanor, and Obstruction of Emergency Communications, a Serious Misdemeanor.

King (pictured at top) was transported to the Fayette County Jail where he will await his initial appearance. This incident is remains under investigation and further charges are pending.
