Born on June 27, 1954, in Yankton, South Dakota, Buck was the son of Victor and Adeline (Honamichael) Newman. He was raised in Mason City, where he graduated from high school before continuing his education at North Iowa Area Community College, earning a degree in carpentry. From an early age, Buck possessed a strong work ethic and a natural ability to build, not only structures, but a life grounded in loyalty, family, and friendship.
He met the love of his life, Margaret Paloma, while they were in high school. They were married on June 30, 1974, at St. Joseph Church in Mason City. Their nearly 54-year marriage was marked by devotion, partnership, and a shared sense of joy that carried them through life’s seasons as they raised three children together.
Buck built a respected career in construction and manufacturing, dedicating 20 years to Curries Manufacturing before retiring in 2018. He approached his work with pride, precision, and unwavering commitment. Providing for his family was never simply a responsibility, it was a calling he fulfilled with integrity.
He lived with enthusiasm. Whether on the golf course, at the bowling alley, shooting pool, or throwing darts, Buck brought energy and camaraderie wherever he went. He loved music, singing, and dancing with Margaret, and he was just as likely to ride his bicycle across town, sometimes even to the golf course, simply because he could.
Buck was known for his easy laughter and gift for conversation. He thrived in the company of others and never hesitated to lend a hand. Loyal, generous, and deeply devoted to his family, he took immense pride in his children and grandchildren. A dedicated sports fan, he cheered faithfully for the Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Twins, and Minnesota Vikings.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years, Margaret Newman; his children, Heather (Mike) Cullivan, Timothy Newman, and Zachary Newman (Sydney Keith); his grandchildren, Elena Cullivan, Riggs Newman, and Wells Newman; and his siblings, Darrell Newman, Jack (Becky) Newman, and Texas Newman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Adeline Newman, and his sister, Debbie Newman.
