Carroll “David” Wilson, 72, of Boone, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

David was born September 30, 1953, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the son of Kenneth and Etta (Nielsen) Wilson. He graduated from North High School in Omaha, Nebraska in 1972.

David joined the United States Navy and served from 1972 to 1975. He received an honorable medical discharge, after contracting Guillain-Barré Syndrome while on the USS Guam.

David was united in marriage to Karen Matthies on September 7, 1974, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska. They moved to Boone in 1975. David first was employed at the Woodward State Hospital for two years and then in the Iowa State University mail room. He then worked at the Urbandale United States Post Office, until his health wouldn’t allow him too anymore.

He enjoyed fishing, putting model kits together, was a master at trivia, known for telling the best stories and in his younger years helping his son with scouting. David enjoyed studying nature, birds especially, and his favorite was the Baltimore Oriole.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

David is survived by his wife of 51 years, Karen Wilson; three children, Jared Wilson, Kaylene Wilson, and Carolynn Wilson; siblings, Jerry (Amy) Wilson, Kevin “Poul” (Debbie) Wilson, Marlene Wilson and Linda Wilson.

A memorial service will be held Friday, March 20, 2026, at 10:30 AM at the Countryside Bible Chapel, 3998 Fenton Avenue, Stratford, IA 50249. There will be a time to greet the family and a luncheon served immediately following the memorial service. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a future designation.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone.
