Alabama pickup driver crosses median, slams into Iowa SUV, kills women

BLACK HAWK COUNTY – Two Iowa women are dead in a crash near Waterloo this week after an Alabama pickup truck driver errantly crossed a highway median and slammed head-on into an unsuspecting SUV.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place at 4:05 PM on Monday, January 17, 2026, on southbound Interstate 380 east of Gilbertville, Iowa.

A report from the Patrol states that a 2025 Ford F-150 pickup driven by 63-year-old Thomas Sidler of Robertsdale, Alabama, was traveling north on I-380 when the vehicle crossed the median and collided head-on with a southbound 2018 Toyota RAV4 driven by 68-year-old Judy Fisher of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After the collision, both vehicles came to rest off the traveled portion of the southbound lanes of I-380.

As a result of the accident, Sidler and Fisher were killed. Additionally, a passenger in the SUV, 45-year-old Jessica Fisher of Cedar Rapids, was also killed.
They were pronounced deceased at the scene. The Patrol claims all three were wearing their seat belts.

The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.

The Patrol was assisted in its investigation into this accident by Gilbertville Police and Fire Departments, the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office, and Waterloo Fire and Evandale EMS.
