CEDAR RAPIDS – One child is dead and three children and one adult were injured when a vehicle left an Eastern Iowa roadway Sunday afternoon and rolled into a wooden area.
According to a report, Amber Rae Rutherford, 36, of Cedar Rapids, was driving on Highway W69 just north of Dundee, Iowa at about 2:00 PM Sunday when she failed to negotiate a a curve in the highway. The vehicle entered the north ditch and rolled into a wooden area. The vehicle came to rest on its top.
The five persons inside were initially taken to a Manchester, Iowa hospital and then transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.
A 13 year-old child, Chloe Estes of Cedar Rapids, lost her life in the accident. Three other children, ages 12, 10 and 7, were injured. The conditions of the injured persons were not disclosed.
The accident remains under investigation.
