Charles “Charlie” Ledford Irons, 89, of Charles City, IA passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, December 1st, 2025, at the Nora Springs Care Center. Funeral arrangements are with Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 5, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. with a one-hour prior visitation at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Chapel Lane, Charles City, Iowa. Father Tom Heathershaw will be officiating. Following the service, Charles will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery.
Charles was born on August 4, 1936 to parents Ledford Irons and Florence (Kubitz) Irons in Lacrosse, Wisconsin. He graduated from Charles City High School and started working on the Milwaukee Railroad at just fifteen years old, and later retired as Assistant Roadmaster. In school, he played third base on the high school baseball team, and then played first base on a men’s softball league for many years. He later served in the U.S. National Guard. On June 4, 1960 Charles married the love of his life Elaine Girkin and together they had two children.
Family was always very important to Charles, he loved his kids, his grandkids, and his great grandaughter. He enjoyed playing several card games throughout the years, especially UNO with his family. On occasion, he would enjoy a can of Miller High Life in the afternoon, and when his daughter Jennifer was visiting, the two would have one together. He also loved playing with his beloved cats, and going on car rides.
Those left to cherish his memory include his two daughters, Michelle (Fred) Etter and Jennifer Moe, two grandchildren Christopher (Adriana) Moe and Kayla (Tyler) Voss, and his great-granddaughter Allorie Moe, as well as his beloved cat O’Reilly.
He was proceeded in death by his wife, Elaine, Son-in-law Dale Moe, his parents and several aunts, uncles and cousins, and his cat Nike.
