October 9, 1961 – November 12, 2025
Mark Raymond Hansen, 64, beloved husband of Marybeth Greenan, transitioned Home to his heavenly Father on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, after a courageous battle with primary liver cancer (hepatocellular cancer).
Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City, IA, with Mark Doebel officiating. A gathering to continue celebrating Mark’s life will be held at Lorado’s following the service, his favorite musician Nichloas David Mrozinski/The Feelin’ and a star of The Voice will be singing two special songs for Mark.
And so it goes Mark transitioned home to his heavenly Father at 9:01 AM on November, 12, 2025 in his home. Mark’s journey was a two and a half year battle with hepatocellular cancer. As he wished this was mostly a private journey. Mark was brave, strong and carried himself like a trooper. Marybeth was his constant love and caregiver. It was an honor to give back all the love and care over the past 40 years, what a story.
Mark’s story began on a fall day in Black Duck, Minnesota. His parents Ray and Norma (Coenen) Hansen raised Mark and his three siblings in Jackson, Minnesota.
Mark was brilliant as a mensa member with his IQ in the top 2 percent of the United States. He graduated from Jackson High School later attending Iowa State University and Mankato State for computer science and math. 20 years ago he went back to college to Buena Vista to add a teaching degree. He then found his dream position teaching math at the Mason City Community School Alternative High School. It was a challenge and a joy.
Mark and Marybeth met a couple times over the years before they actually got together. First meeting was at a Willie Nelson concert May 16, 1981. The second and most important meeting was January 25, 1987, as a beautiful relationship began. The couple married on February 25, 1992, at Holy Family Catholic Church and so now it goes on.
Those who remain to cherish all the memories of Mark are his wife, Marybeth; brother, Rick (Sandy) Hansen and their children, Michael (Jenn) and Kari; sister, Mary Chris (Kevin) Holzman and their children, Matthew, Thomas and Christopher; brother, Jeff Hansen; brother-in-law, Michael (Dee) Greenan; Jeff and Johnnie (Erin) Riser families; friends who became family, Colleen Devine and Boehmer family, Heather, Terry, Heath Johnson, and children, Lena (Justin) Meyer, and Daisy (Danny) Kamm; the Greenan and Jerousek cousins; as well as other family members.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents Ray and Norma; parents in-law, Wes and Mary Frances Greenan; son, Brent Michael Greenan-Pannkuk and many loved ones and friends who waited for him at the gate to come Home.
Mark’s resting place will be in a tranquil location near the water he loved.
One of Mark’s last thoughts he wanted to share for Marybeth was “I will love you throughout eternity and wait for you on the other side.”
