POTTAWATTAMIE COUNTY, IOWA – In a tragic turn of events, a young Iowa woman and a two-year-old child left their vehicle after it became disabled on an Interstate highway and were struck and killed by a passing pickup truck.
Til Baswa, a 27-year-old from Des Moines, and a two-year-old child were killed on Sunday, October 26, 2025, around 7 PM, after being struck by a pickup truck on I-880 in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, near the 8.6-mile marker. They were standing in the median after their SUV hit a deer and became disabled on the roadway. According to the Iowa State Patrol, the driver of the pickup truck swerved to avoid the disabled vehicle and entered the median, hitting the two pedestrians.
The tragedy began when an SUV had a non-contact collision with a deer, causing it to stop in the Interstate roadway. While standing in the median, 27-year-old Til Baswa and a two-year-old child were struck and killed by an eastbound 2021 Chevy K2500 pickup truck driven by 27-year-old Brody Barrier of Neola, Iowa, that swerved to avoid the SUV.
