St. Ansgar man dead after colliding with train in Mitchell county

MITCHELL, IOWA – A St. Ansgar man was killed Wednesday morning after he allegedly failed to yield to a train and was struck broadside.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place Wednesday morning, July 23, 2025. At 10:15 in Mitchell, Iowa, a 1997 Ford Explorer driven by 62-year-old Kenneth Warrington of St. Ansgar, Iowa, was northbound on Indigo Avenue, at the 3800 block. The Patrol says Warrington failed to yield at a railroad crossing at this location, and his SUV was struck broadside on the driver’s side.

As a result of the collision, Kenneth Warrington, tragically, was killed and pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by Osage first responders and Chatfield Towing.
