CHARLES CITY – A recent auto collision in Charles City led to a bad day for the drivers involved in the crash.

Authorities say the accident took place on the afternoon of October 13, 2023. Emergency responders were called at 2:28 PM to assist with a two-vehicle traffic accident near Casey’s, at the intersection of North Grand Avenue and 5th Avenue in Charles City.

“Luckily everyone involved were ok with only minor injuries,” authorities said via social media. “Thank you to our firefighters, Charles City Police Department, and AMR for responding quickly. Remember to increase following distances when the roads are wet and/or slick and always double check to ensure the area is clear before turning into traffic.”

According to police, A 1997 Chevy S-10 pickup driven by 17-year-old Zadie Pittman was stopped at the stop sign on 5th Avenue, turning onto North GrandAvenue. When Pittman pulled out, police say, she struck a 2018 Nissan Versa driven by 35-year-old Samantha Yerkes of Greene, causing around $7,000 in total damages.  NIT readers will remember a report earlier this month involving Yerkes struck a pedestrian in a Hy-Vee parking lot with her Versa.

As a result, Pittman was cited for failure to yeild from a stop sign. One subject whose police did not name was transported any ambulance to the hospital for minor injuries.
