RURAL CERRO GORDO COUNTY – A Northern Iowa man with a history of questionable driving was at it again over the weekend, this time crashing a vehicle outside Sheffield and causing injuries to himself and a child passenger.
On April 12, 2025, at 3:19 AM, Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department Communication Officers received a 911 iPhone crash detection emergency call regarding a car accident near the intersection of 105th Street and Nettle Avenue in Cerro Gordo County. First Responders located a single vehicle, roll-over accident in a farm field on the north side of 105th Street. The vehicle was unoccupied and the driver and passenger were later found at a nearby residence. A 17-year-old male juvenile adult male, identified as 19-year-old Austin Altick of Dougherty, Iowa, were treated for their minor injuries by paramedics.
After an investigation, Altick was charged with first-offense operating while intoxicated and was booked into the Cerro Gordo County jail on April 12 at 8:04 AM. He quickly bonded out.
The Cerro Gordo County Sheriffs Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Mason City Fire Department and Sheffield EMS.
Records show Altick (pictured at top) was allegedly driving recklessly in Lake Mills, Iowa, back on November 20, 2024, and police ticketed him. He later paid $112.50 to Iowa courts in a plea deal to careless driving in connection to the incident.
